Petland Charities, Petland Merrillville Deliver Storm Relief for North West Indiana Pet Owners

Petland Charities and Petland Merrillville recently partnered with the Hobart Township Trustee's Office to help families recover from devastating storms that impacted Northwest Indiana. The local team at Petland Merrillville answered a request for assistance to help families recover from the storms' effects by ensuring their pets’ needs were met as they began rebuilding.

What started as a request for assistance to Petland Merrillville quickly expanded into a coordinated relief effort supported by Petland Charities. Together, they donated dog and cat food, litter, kennels, pet beds, carriers, collars, leashes, toys, training pads, and other pet care essentials.

"We were thrilled to help families in our area and to support pets in need," said Jackie Volk, General Manager of Petland Merrillville. "We saw firsthand how devastating these storms were and knew we wanted to do everything we could to help."

The supplies were distributed during a community disaster relief event hosted by the Hobart Township Trustee's Office in partnership with the American Red Cross of Indiana. More than 70 vehicles representing hundreds of individuals and families received assistance, and additional pet food and cat litter were donated to the Trustee's Office for continued distribution to local families with need.

"People were so happy to receive relief for their pets after going through such a difficult time," said Community Outreach Coordinator Suzanna Enslen. "This is what it's all about - our community coming together. We can't thank Petland and our community partners enough for making this happen."

"The human-animal bond becomes even more important during difficult times," said Brian Winslow, Executive Director of Petland Charities. "We're proud to partner with organizations that know their communities and can quickly connect these resources with the families who need them most."

Petland thanks the Hobart Township Trustee's Office, the American Red Cross of Indiana, volunteers, and the Petland Merrillville team for their partnership in helping Northwest Indiana families and their pets recover from the storms.
