Many children have a lot going on in their lives and minds that others, including their parents, may not be aware of. Sometimes life’s difficulties show up while the students are in school. Anita Rogers (pictured with Andrea Poehler representing Petland Charities), a Huntington Local Schools (OH) guidance counsellor was going through the emotions of suddenly losing a parent, and acquired a Goldendoodle she named Charlie. He helped her through her grief, and she felt he could be as helpful to students who needed him. Charlie was trained as a service dog, and has been on duty at the school ever since. At the beginning of each school year, Petland Charities presents Anita with a $500 Petland gift card to help meet Charlie’s needs to continue his life’s work helping the kids.
